Video Poker is a popular game that can be played in casinos around the globe, or alternatively at your house on your PC, using an Internet account. The regulations are very simple and consist of the player trying to get the highest mixture of cards possible in order to come away with cash. In this respect it is much the same as a classic game of poker, apart from the interaction with any other players. Of course, tactics employed during a physical game of poker, like bluffing, will be useless here.
The game of Electronic Poker begins when the enthusiast inserts credits (either tokens, tickets or money) into the machine and presses the play button. A hand of five cards will then be electronically ‘given out’ on the screen.
The Video Poker machine also has hold buttons, and bettors will need to now pick which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the enthusiast would like to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they want, whether it’s all or none.
After the bettor has chosen which cards he or she would like to retain, the player will then press ‘deal’, which will mean that any fresh cards will be dealt if desired. The round is now finished, with the Video Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the payout schedule.
Normally, the lowest winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each and every better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It goes without saying that the pay out schedule can change from game to game, so that discerning players are able to choose the most money-making ones each time.
After the initial round has played out, the player can either choose to continue on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that they may have won. Further, some versions of the game allow the enthusiast a chance to increase their wins, in which case another hand is played. There are also differences between specific games, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other varying characteristics to enhance playability.
