Video Poker is a beloved game that can be gambled on in casinos across the world, or alternatively at home on your personal computer, through a web account. The regulations are very straightforward and involve the player attempting to get the highest combination of cards achievable in order to come away with cash. In this respect it is very similar as a regular game of poker, minus the involvement with other players. Of course, techniques employed during a physical game of poker, such as tricking, will be irrelevant here.
The game of Video Poker begins when the gambler inserts credits (either tokens, credit slips or cash) into the machine and presses the deal button. A hand of 5 cards will then be electronically ‘handed out’ on the screen.
The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and bettors will need to now choose which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the player would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they wish, whether it is all or none.
After the gambler has chosen which cards he or she wishes to keep, the player will then press ‘deal’, which will mean that any fresh cards will be needed they will be handed out. The game is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the payment schedule.
Normally, the minimum succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money getting larger for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It should be known that the pay out schedule can range from game to game, so that skillful gamblers are able to pick the most profitable game every time.
Once the first round has finished, the player can either choose to stay on in an attempt to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that might been won. Further, some versions of the game allow the enthusiast a chance to increase their profits, in which situation a further hand is played. There are also differences among specific games, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying characteristics to increase playability.
