Video Poker is a beloved game that is able to be played in casinos throughout the globe, or in your house on your PC, through an Internet connection. The rules are absolutely straightforward and involve the player attempting to get the greatest mixture of cards achievable in order to win cash. In this respect it’s much the same as a regular game of poker, apart from the line of contact with any other players. Of course, techniques employed during a real-life game of poker, such as bluffing, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.

The game of Video Poker begins when the player inserts credits (either tokens, credit slips or cash) into the video poker machine and pushes the deal button. A 5 card hand will be electronically ‘handed out’ on the video screen.

The Video Poker game also has hold buttons, and players will need to now choose which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the player would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they wish, from all to none.

After the bettor has decided on which cards he wishes to keep, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards are needed they will be handed out. The round is now completed, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.

Normally, the minimum succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money getting larger for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It should be known that the payout schedule can range from machine to machine, so that discerning players are agile enough to select the most money-making game every instance.

As soon as the first round has finished, the player can either choose to remain on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any money that they may have won. Further, some versions of the game give the gambler an opportunity to double their wins, in which case a further round is played. There are also variations between specific games, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other varying elements to enhance playability.
